Comme des Garçons PLAY
Dating all the way back to 1969, Rei Kawakubo’s Comme des Garçons, began first in a tiny studio in Tokyo and has since penetrated the fashion world with such distinction and such reverence, that it is difficult to not notice the influence and the inspiration that Kawakubo has on designers today. Upon first showing the Comme des Garçons collection in 1981 in Paris, Kawakubo’s aesthetic was found to be shocking as her “Hiroshima Chic” heavy, dark colors were unheard of at the time. Kawakubo’s aesthetic is a bold, dramatic nod to the structured and restructured angle of fashion today. PLAY, created in 2001, aims toward younger men and women for everyday casual streetwear. Kawakubo collaborated with NY artist Filip Pagowski to create the bug-eyed heart logo.
